Nearly a year ago, a T-206 Honus Wagner card sold for $6.6 million, according to Heritage Auctions. It was the most expensive card at the time. This was recently eclipsed in a private sale of a different T-206 Honus Wagner card which fetched $7.25 million, according to ESPN.

The thriving sports collectibles market has made these baseball card auctions and private sales possible. According to Market Decipher, the sports memorabilia market was estimated at $26 billion in 2021. If more expensive cards hit the market in the next few years that estimate will most certainly be eclipsed.
