It has been about six months since the PGA Tour and TMRW Sports announced the creation of TGL, an innovative tech-based golf league. It was announced yesterday (1/23) that Collin Morikawa and Adam Scott would be joining the new golf league.
With these two committed players joining the TGL, we now have a total of six players committed thus far. That list includes co-founders Tiger Woods and Rory Mcllroy, Justin Thomas, Jon Rahm, and the aforementioned Morikawa and Scott.
What is the TGL? What Can Fans Expect During Events?
Information about the golf league, structure of events and technology used are only vaguely known thus far. I would expect more details about the TGL in the coming months.
We know the TGL will consist of 15 regular season matches, playoffs, and a championship match.
The league will have six teams of three PGA Tour players, so we have about a third of the spots filled so far (likely will be some alternatives).
The events will all take place at a Palm Beach, Florida location where a ‘custom-built arena will combine a data-rich virtual course with a state-of-the-art short game complex’. (TGL website)
The TMRW Sports Group website has this to say about the TGL:
In August, Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy, and McCarley announced the formation of TMRW Sports and TGL, a new tech-infused team golf league in partnership with the PGA TOUR. TGL will showcase team competitions fusing advanced tech and live action from a custom-built venue in primetime on Monday nights. Woods, McIlroy, Jon Rahm, and Justin Thomas are the first four golfers committed to compete and more player announcements are slated for January. The league’s inaugural season will kick off in 2024.
TGL, the golf league of TMRW Sports, will feature:
Teams: Six teams of three PGA TOUR players in head-to-head, 18-hole match play;
Tech-Infused Venue: A first-of-its-kind experience for golf enabled by a data-rich, virtual course combined with a tech-infused, short-game complex;
Tech-Enabled Fan Experience: High-energy, greenside fan experience with every shot live within a 2-hour, primetime televised match;
Season: 15 regular season Monday night matches followed by semifinals and finals series of matches.

If you are a fan of golf and are looking forward to the start of the TGL, you will have to wait about a year for this new golf league to launch. The inaugural TGL season won’t kick off until January 2024.
